Designer Protein NEW PRODUCTS April 2017 Video Review
Here is my video review of two amazing products by Designer Protein: Organic Meal, which has 18 grams of protein and 34 grams of carbohydrates per serving, and Protein Meal, which has 25g of protein and 19 grams of carbohydrates per serving.
Both products also contain organic superfood complex carbs, healthy fats, a digestive complex, and 23 vitamins and minerals for a complete meal. Since I always promote a higher protein intake in athletes and older individuals, I naturally lean more towards the Protein Meal, but both products blend well and taste great. As a 50 year old who trains at the gym six days per week and performs aerial arts 3 days per week, I can definitely appreciate the protein content and clean formulation of Designer Protein’s Protein Meal. The inevitable consequence of aging is loss of muscle, also known as sarcopenia. Unless the body is supplied with adequate and proper building blocks for muscle repair and synthesis, the loss of muscle accelerates over time, with an associated loss of strength and overall muscular function.
Do your body a favor and try Designer Protein’s Protein Meal or Organic Meal today!

NEW PRODUCT: Click Active All-In-One Coffee And Protein Drink Mix Video Review
I posted this yesterday, but want to make sure you folks really see this campaign, so I am posting it again today…
Please watch my video review of a new and delicious product from Click called Active All-In-One Coffee and Protein Drink Mix. It delivers 25 grams of protein per 2 scoop serving, with only 0.5 gram of fat and 7 grams of carbohydrate. It also has 5.4 grams of BCAA’s, 4.5 grams of glutamine, and is absolutely delicious! I love the fact that I can satisfy a mocha craving while also getting a healthy serving of protein in my system. This will be a great post-workout product to put on ice for the summertime (blended with ice, anyone?), and it will keep me away from those expensive and nutrient-poor coffee drinks from those fancy coffee establishments.

How To Visualize Your Body Transformation Goal
Whenever I do initial consultations with weight management patients I make sure to ask them what their ultimate weight loss goals are. Invariably my patients will mention a friend or relative who has the physique they desire, or they will mention a time in their lives at which they considered their own bodies to be ideal for them. At the end of the evaluation, I instruct my patients to find at least one picture of that ideal body and post it in a prominent place, either on a desk, bathroom mirror, refrigerator, or car dashboard. The whole point is to create a visual representation of the patient’s goal so that it becomes more tangible over time.
Another tip which I give to weight management patients is to take weekly progress pics so that they can monitor the subtle changes in their bodies over an interval period of time. What they might not see from week to week can be very dramatic when they compare their baseline photos to photos taken many weeks or months later. Over time it becomes easier to take these progress pictures. Trust me, I used to do it regularly myself when I was competing. These days, though, I have hit a certain rhythm in which I stay at a specific set point.
The tips I have just mentioned also work EXTREMELY well for people in the midst of contest prep. I typically advise contest prep clients to take weekly progress pictures, because they provide a great way to monitor subtle changes week by week, as well as yield information which I can use in order to make small changes in a prep plan.
When I first began competing in 2009, I quite randomly picked a couple of images of female competitors whose physiques I really admired, printed them, and placed them on my bathroom mirror. I saw these images daily, and was able to visualize my goal on a consistent basis. I did not remove these images from my mirror until I moved in October of 2012, and when I did so, I moved the images to bulletin boards in our den.
What is amazing now is that I have images of myself right next to the images of the ladies I had so admired, and you know what? I achieved my goal of attaining IFBB Pro Status and the best physique of my life, at the ripe age of 47. These days, I no longer look at the images of these ladies as something to aspire to, but instead look at them as peers.
In summary, there are two things you can do to visualize your goal:
1. FIND AN IMAGE OF THE BODY YOU WANT AND POST IT IN A PROMINENT PLACE.
2. TAKE WEEKLY PROGRESS PICTURES OF YOURSELF.
Visualize and make your goal materialize!

Leaky Gut

If you suffer from sudden food sensitivities, aching joints, digestive upset, fatigue or weight gain, you may be suffering from leaky gut, which is also referred to as increased intestinal permeability. Leaky gut is characterized by the opening of pores in the small intestine, resulting in undigested food particles, bacteria, and toxins traveling to the bloodstream. The presence of these substances in the bloodstream triggers an immune response, whereby the body builds antibodies to the foreign substances but also attacks itself, creating food allergies and autoimmune disorders.
You are probably wondering how something like this occurs and if you are at risk. Let’s look at the main causative factors leading to leaky gut syndrome:
1. Chronic constipation – If you are usually constipated, toxins will often build up in stool, irritating the intestinal lining and causing inflammation, which then causes the pores in the small intestine to expand. In severe cases, Crohn’s Disease, irritable bowel syndrome,or colitis can occur.
2. Chronic stress – The immune system really takes a beating when subjected to chronic stress. If the immune response is compromised, pathogenic bacteria can cause widespread inflammation in the intestines, and leaky gut is a common result.
3. Dysbiosis – This is an imbalance between beneficial and harmful bacteria which can result from antibiotics or poor diet. Inflammation develops, causing the pores to widen.
4. Toxins – We are exposed to many thousands of toxins, but the worst offenders are found in our water supply, pesticides, and in certain medications.

What Is The Solution If You Have A Leaky Gut?
I have several dietary recommendations for treating a leaky gut.
1. Glutamine – I am already a big fan of glutamine in general, but especially for those who suffer from leaky gut. This amino acid has specific activity in the intestine, and restores healthy soft tissue in the region. Over time, regular supplementation with glutamine has a protective effect against intestinal disease. I tend to be fairly aggressive with glutamine and recommend 6 to 8 grams per day, or more if you engage in frequent exercise.
2. Fish oil – Try to find a formula which contains primarily omega-3 fatty acids. You can also increase your consumption of salmon.
3. Digestive enzymes – Digestive enzymes will aid in the breakdown of food substances, especially in older individuals and those suffering from leaky gut. Try taking them with every meal.
4. Betaine hydrochloric acid – Some people produce insufficient amounts of hydrochloric acid, which is needed to break down food in the stomach. If that is the case, betaine hydrochloric acid optimizes the process.
5. probiotics – Most individuals will benefit from adding probiotics into their daily regimen. Make sure to take at least 25 billion units per day for optimal gut health.

Are Diet Sodas Really That Bad?

Diet soda is often consumed by people who either want to lose weight, or maintain a normal weight. The ironic thing is that diet sodas actually increase a person’s chances of becoming overweight, by tricking the body into thinking it’s actually consuming sugar, which increases food cravings. A study conducted at the University of Texas discovered that consumption of two or more cans of diet soda daily caused increased waistline girth in subjects studied.
The main reason why diet sodas have damaging effects on the body is because they contain artificial sweeteners. The vast majority of diet sodas on the market contain either aspartame or sucralose. Aspartame has been linked to cognitive decline, mood swings, depression, dizziness and migraines, while sucralose has a negative impact on insulin sensitivity and gut health.
Even just drinking one can of diet soda each day can increase the risk of metabolic syndrome (diabetes, heart disease, and risk for stroke) by close to 40 percent. Diet soda also impairs kidney function. A Harvard study followed 3,000 female subjects who drank diet sodas, and found that those who drank more than two sodas each day had impaired kidney function.
As if that wasn’t enough, diet sodas cause damage at the cellular level, as well as erode tooth enamel. This is due to the very acidic nature of diet soda, which has a pH of 3.2. Chemicals such as sodium benzoate and potassium benzoate are added to inhibit the acidic quality of the soft drink, but these chemicals cause damage in mitochondrial DNA in our cells, and have been linked to numerous allergies and asthma in some subjects.
Lastly, most cans which house diet sodas are coated with bisphenol-A (BPA), which has a strong correlation with development of heart disease and reproductive issues.
If you absolutely can’t give up diet sodas entirely, wean yourself off of them gradually. After you have kicked the daily diet soda habit, you can incorporate a diet soda called Zevia, which does not contain aspartame or sucralose, into your diet.
